Small tool. Proper craft.

fforj started at a foundry bench. It's for anyone who wants to make something by hand.

Where it started

I'm Knox. Before fforj, I spent five years as a metal chaser at a bronze foundry before becoming a full time sculptor. Chasing is the finishing work: when a sculpture comes out of the mould, someone has to clean up every seam, sharpen every edge and bring the detail back by hand. It's slow, careful work, and it taught me that the small details are where the craft really is. I still make my own bronzes today.

Why a pen

Most tools that can do fine detail are built for workshops: heavy, corded and a bit daunting if you've never used one. I wanted something you could pick up at the kitchen table, hold like a pen and get going with straight away.

That's the fforj Axis: a cordless, USB-C engraving pen with three speeds and 30 diamond bits. It's small enough to live in a drawer and capable enough for wood, glass, stone and metal.

I'll be straight with you: I didn't invent the engraving pen. What fforj adds is everything around it: honest advice, real specs, and someone who knows their way around a finishing tool when you've got a question.

Who it's for

  • Makers and gift-givers personalising mugs, jars, chopping boards and keepsakes.
  • Trades and model makers who need a light, cordless tool for deburring, detail and tight spots.
  • D&T teachers bringing hands-on making into the classroom.
